Bhutan – The Home of the Golden Monkeys

Bhutan is definitely one of the most beautiful countries on the planet. Major cities in Bhutan are Thimpu which is its capital and Paro which has the only international airport in Bhutan. You can catch a Druk Air flight from Kolkata in India to Paro. By road you can enter Bhutan through the Indian border. You will have to apply for a permit if you wan to cross the border. You will need a passport sized photograph and your passport. Bhutan is rightly called the land of the golden monkeys as these langurs are a base site in the country, especially in town of Trongsa.

While you are in Paro you cannot miss the Taktsang Monastery that hangs on a cliff some thousand feet above the ground. You can go to this monastery only by walking that takes about 2 hours one way. Even the capital city of Thimpu is a beautiful place with monasteries and beautiful mountain ranges. Here you can also see the Emperor’s palace from face as well as other government houses. The museum atop a hill is filled with Bhutanese history. There is a big store in the city from where you can buy souvenirs for your loved ones back home.

The citizen of Bhutan are warm and hospitable. There is no corruption in this small country and the government also is very strict regarding the environment cover. About 80% of the country is covered by forests which are regarded as a national treasure in this country. The government is totally against illegal cutting of the trees and it can also attract maximum penalty. It is best to visit this beautiful country in the middle of October and May. It can rain heavily in the months of June, July and August. Indian currency is widely thorough in Bhutan. The legal religion practiced by citizen is Buddhism.
